INGRID VANG NYMAN – THE (UN)KNOWN ILLUSTRATOR OF “PIPPI LONGSTOCKING”

Abstract

The following text is a n attempt to present some of Ingrid Vang Nyman’s works and her illustrations to Astrid Lindgren’s books about Pippi Longstocking in particular. Seventy-five years after the first edition of the book about Pippi, nowadays Ingrid Vang Nyman’s illustrations are highly topical and favoured by publishers from different countries. Several generations of children have grown up on the girl’s well-known image, which has become inseparable from the overall idea of the book’s main character. Unfortunately, too little is known about this Danish illustrator, especially in Bulgaria.
