PROPAGANDA ON THE PAGES OF “I KNOW EVERYTHING” (JUNE 1914– OCTOBER 1915)

Abstract

After two unsuccessful wars for national unification, the Bulgarian society is not inclined to participate in the First World War. In order to be convinced, the Bulgarian political elite sends propaganda messages from the weekly illustrative magazine “I Know Everything”. The decision is dictated by the fact that the publication is distinguished by rich photographic material, achieves direct suggestions, enjoys authority before the readership in the country and abroad. For a year, the editorial staff of the weekly magazine has one-sidedly covered military events, provoking sympathy for the Central Powers. They are presented as defenders of justice and the only guarantors for the implementation of the Bulgarian national cause. Through the follow-up of various propaganda messages, the present article reconstruct the period between the two Balkan wars and the propaganda for Bulgarian participation in the First World War.
