Abstract

The publication of inscriptions from classical antiquity is of indispensable help to historians and archaeologists. However, for their full integration into historical research, it would be useful to study the very process and circumstances of “edition” of the ancient inscriptions, i.e. what circumstances influenced their making and placement, as well as the specifics of their palaeography (scripturae). The research is based on a particular case, the epigraphic heritage from the area of ancient Montana (territorium Montanensium) was used and it proposes a hypothesis for the distribution of some of the inscriptions as the production of two separate “studios” in the period ca. 150 AD – approx. 235 AD.
