Abstract

With digitalization, preconditions are created for the emergence and establishment of new models of cultural heritage protection. Digital conversion practically realizes its “dematerialization”. The digital code provides unlimited possibilities for preserving the cultural heritage by recreating it in material objects. As part of the study, a survey was conducted among the directors of some of the major regional libraries and museums in Bulgaria dealing with the digitization of artifacts and objects of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the country contained in their library funds and museum exhibits. The survey consists of 7 questions related to the importance of digitalization for the preservation of cultural heritage and the results of their practice in this area. They are focused on the attitudes, the adoption of good practices for digitalization, the implemented policies and implemented projects, the need to improve the legislative and regulatory framework to stimulate the digital transformation of cultural heritage and use the latest advances in new technologies for its socialization and transfer in future generations.
